About

I am dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care that extends far beyond the operating theatre. My practice combines a specialist focus on Personalised Anaesthesia for complex surgery with a commitment to Prehabilitation—optimising patient health before surgery to ensure a swifter, safer recovery.

With a clinical background rooted in high-stakes neuro-surgical and interventional environments, I provide precision-focused anaesthetic management tailored to the unique physiological needs of each patient. My approach is built on the foundation of modern perioperative medicine: focusing on pre-surgical optimisation and rapid recovery.

Beyond clinical practice, I utilise my expertise in medical devices and healthcare systems to drive broader improvements in patient safety and operational efficiency, ensuring that every patient benefits from a streamlined, world-class surgical experience.

Specialist Interest

Focused on physiological stability, precision, and rapid recovery.

Neurological & Interventional Care

  • Precision Neuro-Anaesthesia: Expert care for neurosurgical and neuro-interventional procedures, with a rigorous focus on physiological stability and superior perioperative outcomes.
  • Interventional Neuroradiology: Specialized anaesthesia for neuro-interventional radiology, ensuring stable conditions during complex procedures and a rapid, clear recovery.
  • Acute Stroke Thrombectomy: Critical anaesthetic support for endovascular stroke treatment, emphasizing rapid workflow and the preservation of neurological function.

Complex Surgical Management

  • Spinal Surgery: Comprehensive perioperative management for complex spine procedures, utilizing bespoke protocols to support enhanced recovery and mobility.
  • Orthopaedic Arthroplasty: Precision anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery, including joint replacement, with a dedicated focus on effective analgesia and early post-operative mobility.
  • Cosmetic & Restorative Surgery: Tailored perioperative care for cosmetic procedures, designed to prioritize patient safety, comfort, and an exceptional surgical experience.

Surgical Collaboration & ERAS

I actively partner with surgical colleagues who are committed to clinical excellence and theatre efficiency. I have a particular interest in implementing ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) protocols.

By focusing on advanced analgesia, physiological stability, and early mobilization, I help surgical teams achieve:

  • Reduced length of stay for complex spinal and orthopaedic cases
  • Lower complication rates through meticulous pre-surgical optimization
  • Enhanced patient satisfaction scores through a seamless perioperative experience

Patient Information: Your Surgical Journey

Partners in Your Recovery

The period before your surgery is just as important as the procedure itself. By working together to optimize your health, we can ensure the best possible outcome and a smoother transition back to your daily life.

The Pathway to Recovery

Every patient's journey is unique, but our structured approach ensures you are supported at every stage:

  • Pre-operative Optimization: We assess your current health and provide a "Prehabilitation" plan to strengthen your body for the procedure.
  • Bespoke Anaesthetic Planning: On the day of surgery, your anaesthetic is tailored precisely to your medical history and the specific requirements of your procedure.
  • Enhanced Recovery: Post-operative care is focused on effective pain relief and early mobility, helping you recover and return home as safely as possible.

Pre-operative Assessment: Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a pre-operative assessment?

The assessment is a vital safety step. It allows us to identify any underlying health issues, optimize existing conditions (such as blood pressure or anaemia), and create a personalized plan that minimizes surgical risk.

What happens during the assessment?

We will review your full medical history, current medications, and any previous experiences with anaesthesia. Depending on the complexity of your surgery, we may also perform blood tests, an ECG (heart tracing), a physical examination focusing on your heart, lungs, and airway, and a discussion about your specific anaesthetic options and pain management plan.

What is "Prehabilitation"?

Think of prehabilitation as training for surgery. It may involve simple lifestyle adjustments, nutritional support, or specific exercises. The goal is to improve your physiological reserve so your body can handle the stress of surgery and heal more effectively.

Will I meet my Anaesthetist before the surgery?

Yes. I will meet with you before your procedure to review your assessment, answer any last-minute questions, and discuss the final anaesthetic plan. My priority is to ensure you feel informed and comfortable before we enter the operating theatre.

Preparing for Your Procedure: A Quick Checklist

  • Medication: Bring a list of all current medications, including herbal supplements.
  • Fasting: Follow the specific "nil by mouth" instructions provided by the hospital.
  • Questions: Note down any concerns you have about pain relief or recovery.
  • Support: Arrange for a responsible adult to collect you and stay with you for 24 hours after discharge.
